Panaji – Capital Charm:

One of India’s smallest and most pleasant state capitals, Panaji is built on the bank of the wide Mandovi River. Our Lady of the Immaculate Concept, Panaji’s main church, stands above the square in the main part of town.

Also worth a visit is the Mahalaxmi temple. Just 9 km east of Panaji, lies Old Goa with its imposing churches, cathedrals, temples and mosques. You can easily get there by convenient railheads located at Margao and Vasco da Gama.

Goa Things to Do – Hit the beaches:

Not far from Panaji, are twin beaches of Calangute and Candolim, hot favorites amongst tourists. Two kilometers further is the Baga Beach, with a steep hill in the background. Considered one of the best beaches in Goa, the Baga Beach is clean and uncluttered.

From Baga Beach, another 10 minutes walk will bring you to the Anjuna Beach. Close by, is the Chapora Fort with the magnificent Albuquerque Mansion.

About 5 km from Margao is the Colva Beach. This 40 km stretch of powdery sand and pristine warm waters is a perfect place to while the day away.

Amongst the many temples of Goa, the most celebrated one is the famous Shri Mangesh Temple. Located in Ponda, about 19 km from Panaji, this 400-year-old temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Goa is well known for historic churches. In particular, Old Goa is full of largest churches. One among them is Se Cathedral built as per the Gothic style of Portuguese. You can also find 16th-century Basilica and Convent of St. Francis Xavier.

Amongst the five ancient mosques in Goa, the most famous is the Namaz Gah, built by Prince Akbar, the son of Emperor Aurangzeb. Also worth a visit is the Safa Shahouri Masjid, at Ponda. Built in 1560, this is the oldest mosque in Goa.

Dudhsagar Waterfalls – A Trek to Remember!

The Dudhsagar Waterfalls about 60 km from Panaji are situated between Kulem and Castle Rock railway stations. The sight of water cascading down a height of about 200m is spectacular and visible from the Dudhsagar railway station.

For three days before Lent each year, Goa comes alive with the Carnival. Celebrated in true Latin style, the Carnival is one big party for both locals and tourists.

The Indian Railway’s network touching Vasco and Madgaon makes this beach paradise easily accessible to tourists from all over the country. The train road is picturesque and the journey is as delightful as the destination.
